E-Stim (Electrical Stimulation) and TENS Units

E-stim is used with other therapies at Allied Healthcare Clinics to alleviate muscle pain. Electrical stimulation blocks pain and also increases metabolism.

During e-stim treatment, four electrodes are stuck to the skin over the sore muscle. Mild electric current is set to the patient's tolerance. Most commonly we use pre-modulated current, but will use other choices of current, according to the best effect and purpose of our patients.

Dr. Thomas prefers this method for pain relief, because it has virtually no side effects and requires no medication, no needles, and no risk of addiction or damage to internal organs.

E-stim prevents pain messages from being transmitted to the brain and may also raise levels of endorphins (the brain's naturally produced pain killer.)

This treatment is combined with moist heat or ice, and is often utilized with muscle stripping, ultrasound, chiropractic adjustments or IDD Therapy®.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

For our patients, we also offer TENS units for sale to use in at home treatments. TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) units are small, portable and battery operated. At home TENS use is similar to e-stim done onsite at Allied Healthcare Clinics.

It is important to get your TENS unit from your medical professional or chiropractor, as there are specific usage instructions to follow. At Allied Healthcare Clinics, we want our patients to feel educated and informed about the purpose for the electrical stimulation (in and out of our office) and how to make it work for their pain relief.
