Facet Syndrome SymptomsFacet syndrome symptoms can vary as the condition is often related to other degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis or degenerative disc disease. Many of the facet joint syndrome symptoms are similar to other back pain disorders. The prevalent complaints are stiffness and a deep achy pain. Pain typically occurs on the side of the spine that is damaged and is exasperated when twisting or bending to that particular side. Backward bending can also increase the discomfort. Morning stiffness and difficulty getting out of a chair are also possible facet syndrome symptoms. Difficulty standing up straight or a hunched back are common. Prolonged sitting or standing and remaining in a stagnant position will cause a flare up. When facets are inflamed, they can cause the nearby muscles to spasm. Pain can occur in the damaged area as well as referred pain associated with either a cervical or lumbar location. Healthy pain management at Allied Healthcare Clinics, involves muscle management, electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy and IDD Therapy® to treat the causes of back pain, including facet syndrome.
