Treatment for Sciatica

Treatment for sciatica will vary depending on the severity and the source. Here a story on how one woman recovered from her shooting sciatic pain .

There are multiple ways of treating sciatica from chiropractic care, massage, physical therapy, medication, and and extreme cases surgery.

Sciatica treatment is geared towards removing the pressure that being placed on the nerve, which most often is due to a herniated disc. More common with age, the discs in between the vertebra become weaker and thinner. Over time the outer layer of the disc can lose its elasticity and squeeze out of the normal boundary. When the disc protrudes or ruptures, pressure is placed on the spinal cord or the branches of the nerve. These discs in the lumbar or sacral region are the ones that put pressure on the sciatic nerve and ultimately are causing your discomfort.

Treatment for sciatica has a wide variety of options, but not all are going to be helpful. Bed rest and pain medication can be a common suggestion. However bed rest is not always the best option, as complete inactivity can limit the blood flow and actually inhibit recovery. Being active can actually aid in the healing process, depending on the severity of the case. Now this does not mean you should go run a marathon, however if a short walk does not cause further pain or aggravation you should try to remain somewhat mobile. Specific exercises and stretches can provide relief.

Pain medication on the other hand is often a band-aid with short term relief. In some extreme cases epidural shots are given but yet again this will not address the root cause. Surgery is also an option, but going under the knife is not an option for many.

Another form of sciatica treatment is the Accu-Spina IDD Therapy. Basically this is a non surgical, credible, and proven procedure that is giving relief to sciatica pain suffers.

In order to treat sciatica, the most important factor is finding the source of the problem. After this is discovered, the road map to recovery can begin.
